Month seven of my pregnancy went so fast! It really feels like everything is speeding up as we head into the third trimester and quickly towards the end! This is what we have been getting into weeks 28 – 31.
Important note – none of this is intended as medical advice. This is an honest account of my experience, but every pregnancy is different. If you have any concerns please contact your doctor or medical professional.
The Glucose test –
Spoiler alert, I failed the 1 hr Glucose test… In fairness I sort of feel like it was administered badly because I was advised to eat a sandwich right before drinking my glucose drink, which I think skewed my results. It didn’t make sense to me at the time when the nurse told me to and I wish I had listened to my instincts and not eaten it.
I took the 3 hr Glucose test a week later and passed which was such a relief. I was so concerned about developing gestational diabetes!
My skin is falling off –
I have the driest flakiest skin at the moment! Despite exfoliating and moisturizing the skin on my arms and legs has been so bad! It’s like the peely skin that you get after you burn, except that I haven’t burnt. I thought that I was drinking enough water, but apparently it could be a symptom of dehydration. I need to seriously up the H2O!
Kick counting –
Since I hit 28 weeks I have been diligently recording my kick counts. Ovia makes it super easy with a timer, you start and then tap the button every time you feel a kick or a movement. When I reach 10 kicks I click done to record the count. It keeps a record of the time/date, number of kicks and time elapsed. This way I have all the info to hand when I visit the doctor and I can build up an idea of his patterns.
Third Trimester Nausea –
So third trimester nausea is a thing… having thought that I was safely past all of that I am now getting random waves of nausea and occasionally vomiting a little in my mouth. It’s really quite unpleasant and unpredictable.
Baby shower –
I had my lovely baby shower at 29 weeks! Such a fun day out with the girls and I feel so grateful and loved! We are now so much more prepared for Baby’s arrival with some of our most needed items being gifted by our generous friends!
I have a sneak peek into my registry here, if you want to take a look at the essentials that we put down.

Not wanting to eat proper meals –
Very few meal ideas sound appealing to me right now and I’m much more likely to snack. My go-to favourites are currently frozen fruit smoothies, rice crackers with hummus, English muffin toasted with marmite and cheese (a staple all the way through my pregnancy), cut fruit (especially watermelon), and carrot sticks.
Also on the list, chocolate brownies and chocolate chip cookies (or anything with chocolate in it).
Already feeling like I’m going to miss this –
I am sure that I will feel differently in a couple of weeks and, don’t get me wrong, it is difficult sometimes. But, I’m already feeling like I’m going to miss being pregnant. As I sit here and I feel him squirm around, I am really enjoying being pregnant right now! Sure, my feet are also super swollen and I’m feeling pretty heavy and hot, but I have been surprisingly lucky so far and I’m just cherishing the little moments.
Third trimester movements –
Third trimester movements feel quite different to the pokes and nudges of the second trimester. Because there is less room and the baby is so much bigger you feel a lot more wriggling and big pushes against your stomach with little elbows, knees or feet (I’m just guessing, it’s hard to know what is what).
Hiccups –
So many hiccups, baby Barefoot seems to get hiccups at least once a day – usually after I have had something to eat or drink, poor thing! Baby is head down currently, so I get the rhythmic twitch of the hiccups in my lower abdomen.
Growth scan –
We had our 32 week growth scan at 31 weeks 4 days to check that everything is measuring as normal. To our surprise Baby Barefoot is measuring big at around 2 weeks ahead (34 weeks). Doctor does not seem too concerned, suggesting that it is just because my husband is tall and the men on my family side are also quite large.
It was great to see the baby in so much detail (we could even see hair) – all the organs were looking good and so were the fluid levels, the placenta and the umbilical cord.
