We’re moving quickly through the pregnancy diaries as we play a bit of pregnancy catch-up! All of my early pregnancy posts were written in real time, but not published in real time as we cautiously waited for confirmation from our doctor that everything was progressing as normal.
The start of the second trimester brings yet more interesting changes as we move through weeks 14 – 17 of my pregnancy!
Not feeling pregnant –
Week 14 came with a curious new symptom, not feeling pregnant… I’m not as bloated, no little abdominal pains, nothing. The only symptom that is reliably ever-present is the exhaustion.
Waiting for bump –
Month Four and still no real baby bump, little bit of bloating towards the end of the day and lower abdomen feels a bit firmer but I’m still wondering how long before the actual bump appears. I guess I should enjoy it while it lasts since all my usual clothes still fit with no issues!
Telling people –
So I’ve been really hesistant to tell anyone other than family and closest friends, but finally (in Week 15) I started to relax and start telling a few more people, including work. This is starting to feel very real!
Feeling baby move? –
Now, hear me out, I know that this is very early for a first time mum to be feeling baby move, but… Every now and again (usually when I go from standing up to lying down) I get a feeling in the pit of my stomach that is like when you go down in a lift, or drive over a hill too fast. A sensation a bit like my stomach turning over. I’ve read up on it and it seems like it might be the baby moving, not kicking but a full body movement – likely caused by the change in my position.
Important note – none of this is intended as medical advice. This is an honest account of my experience, but every pregnancy is different. If you have any concerns please contact your doctor or medical professional.
More travel –
This time to Puerto Rico with the girls for a wonderful weekend away with the ladies. I tell you, Baby Barefoot is very well traveled already with two trips to the United States (NYC and PR), the UK, France and the Channel Islands, all before Week 17. I must be mad! Still, this latest trip has been ideal for stocking up on a few maternity essentials – investing in my pregnancy pillow (don’t wait – get one, it’s life changing!) along with a couple of maternity dresses and pieces to see me through the next few months (if this bump ever appears!)
I’m still a bit too superstitious to do too much baby shopping but I did allow myself to pick up some clothes and other small items. We’re going to have to make a big shopping list soon and I’ll share with you everything that we are registering for!
Low blood pressure –
I’be struggled with high blood pressure my entire adult life and now I have something new to contend with! It seems that my bp is now too low, I feel dizzy and faint every time I stand. My readings are typically 100/70. Time for a conversation with the doctor and an opportunity to reduce my meds, I think!
Exhaustion –
I realize that I sound like a stuck record but I am still exhausted!! There is no sign of this magical second trimester energy appearing any time soon. The husband has written me off completely – hopefully I’ll wake up long enough to hold a conversation or spend some time with him in the next few months… I struggle to make it through every work day and then sleep all weekend to try and catch up! This baby-making is tiring business.
Itchy Palms –
Random one but I keep getting the itchiest right palm! Anyone know what causes this?? It’s not serious enough for me to be worried about Cholestasis, just a mild irritation.
Vivid Dreams –
I am having so many vivid dreams at the moment. Some pregnancy/baby related and some just plain weird!
Guessing the sex –
We’re contemplating finding out baby Barefoot’s sex at our 17 week scan, if babe cooperates! In the meantime though I have been having lots of fun trying out all the old wives tales gender predictions! You name it, I’ve probably tried it!
